Contribute

Updated

Drop Inn has now such a wide reach, it now works best as a network, with contributions going back and forth. This page advises on how you, as a partner or a friend of Drop Inn, can contribute to our website or material.

Note

We want to inform you that everything you contribute can be used by us freely. If you want a credit, let us know, but we cannot offer payment for material.

News and ArticlesLink to this section

If you want to contribute a News item or an Article write-up, you can email them to media@dropinn.net.

Remember to include:

  • Your name
  • Your country
  • A campaign, if it relates to one.

You can also send us an article (if it’s purely text) via our contact form.

PhotosLink to this section

If you have photos, there are a number of ways in which you can supply them to us:

Flickr

This is our preferred option. We use Flickr as a central repository for photos. This allows full resolutions to be stored. We have created a collaboration group which you can join and contribute as often as you like. If you want to join you need to do the following:

  • Create a Yahoo account
  • Let us know your yahoo email address, along with your name and your association with Drop Inn. You can do this via media@dropinn.net

Once we have received this we will add you to the group, at which point you will get a notification to your yahoo address.

Dropbox

Dropbox acts as an online hard drive. To use Dropbox:

  • If you do not have a Dropbox account create one at dropbox.com.
  • You can create folders within Dropbox where you can upload photos
  • Dropbox has instructions of how to share folders as links. To share with us, simply email your link to media@dropinn.net

Email

You can also email us directly with photos via media@dropinn.net.

Notes

There are a couple of things to keep in mind when sharing photos:

  • Photos should be JPGs
  • They should not be embedded in a document, eg. Word or Powerpoint: just the actual photos
  • Larger the better. Smaller photos limit how they can be used
  • Name your JPGs sensibly. This helps us identify what they are of: eg. secondary-school-in-koudougou.jpg makes more sense than IC1038929.jpg
  • On Flickr there are further options to put notes against your photos. Make use of these as they help us understand your photos more.

Vimeo

This is our preferred method. It encourages high-quality video, which is ad-free. To use this:

  • If you haven’t one already, create a Vimeo account at vimeo.com
  • Upload your video via the button at the top of the page, following the instructions.
  • Once uploaded, send us the link via media@dropinn.net

YouTube

You can also send us the link to a YouTube video you have created

If you have a Google account, you can upload to YouTube.

  • Upload your video via the button at the top of the page, following the instructions.
  • Once uploaded, send us the link via media@dropinn.net

Notes

There are a couple of things to keep in mind when sharing videos via Dropbox or email:

  • Videos should be in MP4
  • They should not be embedded in a document, eg. Word or Powerpoint: just the actual photos
  • Name your Videos sensibly. This helps us identify what they are of: eg. secondary-school-in-koudougou.mp4 makes more sense than IC1038929.mp4
